RYC Podcast 103 | Sleeparchive

Very rare podcast. What this man put together is something special, as Brewer has elected to deliver a sort of mixtape,
one that largely eschews club-ready sonics for sounds that are more ambient and introspective. This session will glide you through pensive soundscapes, patches of noise, and soaring melodies. When A Clash of Ideals comes to a close, there's little question that the listener has just completed a rich musical journey from somebody how's a true Techno hero. But it all starts here..

Only For Robots 069 - Brendon Moeller live @ Smart Bar [13.12.14]

When it comes to post-Basic Channel dub techno, Brendon Moeller is one of the go-to guys. Since leaving his native South Africa for New York City in 1993, the dub technician has been proudly laying down his musical legacy on labels like Astralwerks, Mule Musiq and Six Degrees Records; working with revered vocalists like Paul St. Hilaire, Mikey Dread and Mutabaruka and fomenting relationships with scene institutions like fabric, Berghain and Francois K.

''My parents detected my interest in music at an early age so sent me for piano lessons. However, this kinda alienated me from my desires as the teacher ended up trying to impose all this classical stuff on me when all I was interested in playing was Hall & Oates and Queen. After 2 years of piano I quit and spent all my time playing tennis before I began playing drums in a band when I was 19, at which point the fire was ignited once again.''

''The band was fun for a few years but was never as serious for the other members as it was for me. About the same time I was hearing early acid house and ambient stuff, so in late 1993 decided to sell my car and buy a ticket to NYC. I worked as a waiter six days a week and, in mid 1994, purchased my first drum machine, sequencer and synth...''

Since then, the dub landscape has been for ever changing at his hands: sometimes under his own name, sometimes as Beat Pharmacy (almost exclusively on Francois K's Wave Music) and sometimes as Echologist, he is behind seven full length albums to-date, each of which has breached the musical boundaries of what went before. Taking cues from jazz, techno, dub, afrobeat and psychedelia, Moeller's aims are simple.

OutisPodcastSeries04 - Edit Select

Outis Podcast Series 004

“Edit Select”

Welcome to the fourth episode of this podcast series in which I have the pleasure of hosting a Scottish friend “Tony Scott a.k.a Edit Select”with whom I'm sharing some projects including the next Outis release “Mnemosyne EP” which will be released on 16/ 05/ 2014.
To lighten these days of waiting I was able to convince Tony to delight us with a mix and it seems that it has succeeded well with him.

Surgeon (ambient set) at Freerotation 2014

"This hybrid DJ / Live Set was recorded in a yurt structure at the Freerotation Festival in Wales. This time my idea for the set was to take us all much further out, much deeper inside than the set from last year. A more disembodied experience.
As I had done last year, I sat on the floor in front of the speakers to perform instead of behind them as a DJ normally does. This greatly enhanced my feeling of experiencing the set with the audience, dissolving the usual performer / audience divide. Below is the list of tracks that I played in addition to live improvisation using a eurorack modular system.

Many thanks to Steevio, the whole Freerotation crew and everyone who experienced it there with me." [SURGEON]

Abstract Division @ Imprint, Trouw Amsterdam

Paul is label-boss of the respected Dynamic Reflection imprint, experienced DJ and producer, and the driving force behind the series of succesful Mental Evolution events in the Netherlands. Dave has earned his stripes through his longstanding career of (vinyl-only) DJ-sets, productions with Damian Keane and as part of the Audiosculpture collective. Combining their love of and keen ear for techno that stands out from the gray majority, Abstract Division knows how to surprise, teach and get people dancing their faces off all at once.

Robert Hood @ Slam Tent, T In The Park 2014

"Before I got into this music I wanted to be an originator ; I wanted to be original”.

Robert Hood needs little introduction. Founding member of the legendary group Underground Resistance as a 'Minister Of Information' with ‘Mad’ Mike Banks & Jeff Mills, his seminal works on Jeff Mill's Axis and his very own M-Plant imprint paved the way for a wave of stripped-down dancefloor minimalism that directed much of techno's path throughout the late Nineties. Robert Hood makes minimal Detroit techno with an emphasis on soul and experimentation over flash and popularity.

Having recorded for Metroplex, Jeff Mills' Axis label, as well as Patrick Pulsingers 'Cheap' label, Peacefrog, and more recently Music Man, Hood also owns and operates the M-Plant imprint, through which he's released the bulk of his solo material. He has only released 2 ever CD mixes one for French label Logistic, and a mix for the club 'Fabric' mix series
"Growing up in Detroit, I grew up with Motown in the house - a lot of Motown and Philadelphia soul, artists like Marvin Gaye of course and Curtis Mayfield. I remember Isaac Hayes, the soundtrack from ‘Shaft’ had come out. My father was a jazz musician; he played piano, trumpet and drums. My mother was in an R’n’B group.

We listened to a lot of Motown - in fact, my grandfather’s first cousin is Berry Gordy.
"I was influenced by my father - I wanted to play trumpet like he did."
Robert's father tragically died when he was just 6. The photo of Robert siting down holding a trumpet is his fathers.
